Bihar has more than 50 lakh hepatitis patients

There are over 50 lakh hepatitis patients in Bihar, stated Dr Dineshwar Prasad, the principal of Government Ayurvedic College and Hospital (GACH) on the occasion of World Hepatitis Day on Wednesday. He said that 5 out of every 100 individuals had hepatitis in the state.

Dr Prasad mentioned that hepatitis can occur as a result of alcohol consumption, epilepsy drugs, and AIDS or TB medicines, and can be fatalif detected late. He added that the theme for this year’s World Hepatitis Day is ‘Hepatitis can’t wait’. It emphasizes that urgent efforts are needed to eliminate this disease as a public health threat by 2030.

Dr Santosh Kumar Vishwakarma, Dr Sunita Pandey and Dr Punam Kumari of GACH emphasized on carrying out intensive tests on pregnant women to detect hepatitis and stressed on vaccinating newborns on time. They also suggested that some Ayurvedic medicines can safely treat a hepatitis patient.
